A made a short documentary showing how Samantha’s relationship with her mother and drugs affect the person she is today and how her current life choices will affect her daughter. I met Samantha through the RIT workshop on Storytelling About Addiction and Recovery, which I enrolled in because I wanted to get a better understanding of a community that I feel can be misrepresented. One of the things I learned in the workshop was that language can have a huge effect on how others perceive the story of those going through addiction and recovery. Language can also be visual and that’s something I will make sure to keep in mind when creating my own stories on this topic. “I want to be a role model to my daughter.
